The Verge has obtained an internal document from Walmart that suggests an upcoming launch of the Nook Tablet in an 8GB flavor on Wednesday, February 22nd. Asides from the change in storage capacity, the 8GB Nook Tablet will be no different than its larger siblings. Barnes & Noble is likely making this move to better compete with the price of Amazon’s Kindle Fire, which costs $50 less and has sold far more units.
Additionally, this move could be related to the alleged price drop that the iPad 2 will receive once Apple releases the third-generation iPad next month. The base model Nook Tablet currently costs $249, while the base model Kindle Fire and iPad run for $199 and $499 respectively.
