MacRumors Confirms iPad 3 will have Retina Display

After many photographs of the proportioned Retina display that Apple has been rumored to include with their upcoming iPad 3,¬†MacRumors has been able to obtain a physical copy of a 2048×1536 Retina display intended for the iPad 3. Eric Slivka, the Editor in Chief of the blog, has confirmed the validity of this display by closely examining it under a microscope and comparing his finds to the existing iPad 2′s display…

After very careful analysis, Slivka has reached the conclusion that the pixels on said Retina display are one-quarter the size of those on the current iPad 2. Slivka notes that the display is of the same proportions as the display in the iPad 2, though with more pixels per inch, or pixel density. The photograph above shows the difference between the two displays under a microscope.

It has been rumored that Apple will release the iPad 3 with a high-definition Retina display, LTE, an A6 quad-core CPU, and more on March 7th, among other dates. All hope for an event this month was crushed by Jim Dalrymple of The Loop, who has very credible sources.
