Next Edition of Rewind:
April 22nd, 2010

Welcome to the third edition of Rewind — the exclusive iPod touch Fans’ article that sums up the latest in iPhone/iPod touch news, themes, jailbreaking, and more as well as what’s going on around the iPod touch Fans community. Post your replies to this thread and they may be chosen as the Comments of the Week for next week’s article. The banner that you see above was designed by Manic Nimrod.

iPhone 4G slated for next June

According to the CEO of SaskTel, the carrier’s upcoming 3G network will line up perfectly with the “new iPhone” that is supposedly slated for this June. SaskTel is a minor carrier based out of Saskatchewan, Canada.

“The good news is that (Apple) is coming out with a new version of the iPhone in the June time-frame and they’re going to put us on that. So we’re quite excited about that.”

Who didn’t expect this was going to happen? After all, an iPhone has been released each summer for the past 3 years. The original iPhone debuted in June 2007 followed by iPhone 3G (July 2008) and, most recently, iPhone 3GS (June 2009). Additionally, this date corresponds well with the latest rumor to surface regarding a potential Apple event to be held on June 22nd. For those of you considering purchasing a new iPhone 3GS, it would be a wise decision to hold off until late July, at the earliest, as a precaution.

iPod Multi-Touch Fans: Spring Cleaning

“Spring Cleaning” is now underway on the forums. iPod touch Fans has merged with iPad IMO to become one larger website — called Multi-Touch Fans. The domain name will remain as The forums and subforums have been reorganized to make it easier to find the section in which your post fits best. Older stuck threads are currently in the process of being either revised or unstuck. The front page is — as we speak — in the process of becoming more active. More tutorials, guides, and how-to threads are showing up under the Tutorials (beta) tab. Lastly, five new users have been added to the moderating team — Chicken, _JKK_, Shåwa, SilentWalker, and Vintagecondom. Feel free to congratulate these users on their user profiles! Most of these ideas have been shared with the iPod touch Fans’ staff through the various forum improvement and reform threads that have been ongoing since the beginning of the month.

Dev Team releases jailbreak for OS 4.0 (beta 1)

The iPhone Dev Team has released redsn0w 0.9.5, a tool that can be used to jailbreak iPhone OS 4.0 (beta 1). According to MuscleNerd, a member of the iPhone Dev Team, this jailbreak method uses the same pwnage2 DFU-mode exploit that the team has been using since the days of Firmware 2.x. Redsn0w 0.9.5 is currently beta and is only compatible with the following:

  • Mac OS X
  • iPhone 3G
  • iPhone OS 4.0 (Beta 1)

Support for other devices and firmwares is likely coming soon. A download link for redsn0w 0.9.5 (for Mac OS X) can be found in the related links below.

Recent and Upcoming Theme Releases:

Release: “Tomb”

By TBoneGrafix
Click here to visit the official release thread (with download) for this theme.

Official Description:
My first all out theme. This in the hands of a couple beta testers now. It uses Infinidock, Springjumps, iBlank, Blanknull, and Categories. Pretty unique I think visually. Touch the snake when it appears on the skull on the right to get to the categories folders. (When you move or go to delete an icon, watch the snake wiggle on the skulls head.)

My Take on It: This is an absolutely fantastic looking theme. This theme reminds me of a Gothic-styled castle. An analog clock appears to have been implemented very well into the theme to the point that it is barely noticeable. Very nice work from the artist behind this theme — especially for their first theme. I highly suggest downloading this theme, as I have done, and I am looking forward to seeing future customizations from this user.

Release: “Imprint”

By cbren and theiThemer
Click here to visit the official release thread (with download) for this theme.

Official Description:
Imprint was created by cbren and iThemer. Both of us would like to thank all of you for any feedback we received. We will be supporting this theme fully, providing requested icons and working on themes for different apps that will go along with it. The download link will be updated when we have new things to add, such as icons or other theme pieces.

My Take on It: Is it just me or do the icons in this theme remind you of those candy hearts with the messages on them? Anyhow, this theme is not a style that I prefer but it is very nice looking. Plus, cbren is volunteering his time to create any custom icons that may be requested.

Work-in-Progress: “Bokehand”

By Johnny Quest
Click here to visit the official preview thread for this theme.

Official Description:
I’ve been working on this off and on and posted on another site, so I would like to post it here to hear some feedback. I hope you guys like this so far and please constructive criticism. This is just a work in progress so I will edit accordingly to tips and advise. Thank you.

My Take on It:
This is a decent looking theme with a not so decent looking wallpaper. The icons could use some work.
