Apple Offering $999 MacBook Air to Educational Institutions

MacRumors reports today that Apple has started to offer a stripped-down edition of their MacBook Air to educational institutions in lieu of the foregoing polycarbonate MacBook, which was recently suspended. This new education-only MacBook Air is a 13-inch model that includes the same internal hardware as the introductory 11.6-inch MacBook Air: a 1.6 GHz i5 CPU, 2 GB of RAM, a 64 GB solid state drive, and Intel’s HD Graphics 3000 for graphics processing. The Mac manufacturer offers academic foundations a 5-pack of these MacBook Airs for $4,995, or a $999 per unit; an introductory 13-inch MacBook Air costs $1,299 for the general public.
