Apple Number One Buyer of Semiconductors

According to a research report by Gartner, Apple purchased more semiconductors in 2011 than any other company in the world. Their purchases grew 35 percent from 2010, allowing them to leapfrog both HP and Samsung, the previous leaders.

The primary reason for the growth is the massive number of smartphone, tablet, and SSD sales—thanks to the iPhone 4S and iPad 2. Gartner’s last report pegged Apple as the third largest PC vendor in the U.S., and with their sales growing every day, it won’t be long before they take the number one spot.
