RIM’s co-CEOs Jim Balsillie and Mike Lazaridis are stepping down from Research In Motion, the Canadian-based maker of BlackBerry devices. The current COO will take up the position in their stead.
Interesting, given RIM’s inability to compete with what Google, Microsoft, and Apple have been shipping for the past few years. Their investors have also been very bullish on the co-CEOs, believing them to be unable to cope with the truth and to steer RIM back to profitability.
With their next-generation mobile OS still months away from shipping, it’ll be interesting to see what the new CEO will do to keep RIM relevant.
