UK-born Jony Ive, the Senior VP of Industrial Design at Apple, is now a Knight Commander of the British Empire. Every year, the UK publishes the “New Year Honours list”, which recognizes important British citizens for their contributions to society. Previous recipients include Bill Gates and Bono. Steve Jobs nearly made the list before his knighthood was blocked in 2009 for not speaking at a Labour Party conference.
He described the honour as “absolutely thrilling” and said he was “both humbled and sincerely grateful”. Mr Ive added: “I am keenly aware that I benefit from a wonderful tradition in the UK of designing and making. ”I discovered at an early age that all I’ve ever wanted to do is design.”
Congratulations, Sir Jonathan! You certainly deserve it.
