Apple has released their annual iTunes and App Store Rewind features, recapping the year’s best music, apps, TV shows, books, movies, and podcasts. The photography app Instagram was selected by Apple as “iPhone App of the Year,” while Tiny Tower was selected as the “iPhone Game of the Year.”
For the iPad, Snapseed was chosen as the “iPad App of the Year,” while Apple picked Dead Space as “iPad Game of the Year.” Angry Birds was the top grossing application for both iPhone and iPad in 2011, while the light version of Angry Birds was the first and fourth best free app for iPad and iPhone respectively. Facebook, Pandora Radio, and Words with Friends Free topped Angry Birds in the free iPhone app category.
On the music front, Adele was very successful by winning both the “Best Overall Album” (“21“) and “Best Overall Song” (“Rolling in the Deep“) titles. Adele’s album “21” was also this year’s top selling album. “Party Rock Anthem,” however, outpaced any of Adele’s songs as this year’s best selling song on iTunes. On a final note, Nicki Minaj was listed as “Best New Artist” to emerge in 2011.
