Look Out, Facebook! Twitter for iPhone is Brand New!

Twitter today announced that it will be revamping its social networking service to make it faster and simpler to use across all platforms. As part of the upgrade, Twitter has released version 4.0 of its official Twitter for iPhone app on the App Store. “Twitter 4.0″ for iPhone is faster and simpler to use with a completely overhauled user interface. Across the bottom menu in the app are four tabs for Home, Connect, Discover, and Me. The official Twitter app remains free to download, but these new updates haven’t made their way to Twitter’s official iPad app yet.

The home tab presents you with your Twitter timeline and Tweet button in the top right corner. You can favorite, retweet, or share tweets from this page as well. Connect presents with you two menus for “mentions” and “interactions,” which are for viewing replies to your tweets and seeing who retweets, favorites, or shares your Twitter posts respectively. Discover lets you view trending topics with hashtags and also shares related news stories with links. Last but not least, the Me tab shows your profile, lets you send direct messages, shows your total number of tweets, and lists who you are following and who you’re followed by. Account settings and help is also accessible from the Me pane. Check out screenshots after the break.
