Flipboard has finally arrived on your smartphone! (Provided that you have Apple’s smartphone, that is.) Just today, the once iPad-exclusive personalized social magazine has become available on all iOS devices, including the iPod touch. The iPhone edition has an exclusive “cover stories” feature that learns from what you read and pins the most notable sources to the app’s home screen. These sources can range from your Twitter and Instagram accounts to your RSS or Flipboard feeds. This allows for swift recognition of more significant events, rather than regular — and possibly dull — news. Cover Stories are apparently “[c]oming soon to iPad.”
Flipboard explains how Cover Stories work:
With Flipboard for iPhone we’re introducing Cover Stories. Think of Cover Stories as the feed to check when you’re in line at the coffee shop, commuting on the train or just hanging out at home. It contains a constantly updated selection of interesting articles and photos being shared with you right now.
Cover Stories come from all your Flipboard tiles, including social networks like Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. As you add more sources to your Flipboard, their posts will begin to appear in your Cover Stories.
Flipboard 1.7 also introduces Flipboard Accounts for syncing your feeds between all of your devices, whether it be an iPhone, iPod touch and iPad simultaneously or just two devices. You can find the full list of changes after the break.
The social news app is still available free in the App Store, so go download it now! If you’re having trouble connecting to their servers, then it’s being caused by the large amount of traffic that they are receiving due to this launch. Just keep trying and you should be able to connect sometime today.
Even Apple’s senior vice president approves of the new iPhone app.
