Last week, the Chronic Dev Team released their “weapon of mass exploitation” crash reporting tool. The program collects crash reports from iOS devices, which can be used to find vulnerabilities for future jailbreaks; this is similar to what Apple uses to find possible holes when an app crashes, and this tool will disable sending the crash report to Apple.
iOS hacker and Chronic Dev Team member Joshua Hill (p0sixninja) has recently tweeted that the tool has already collected over 10,071,868 reports from users. This is a significant milestone in such a short period of time and an indicator of how supportive the jailbreak community truly is. Hopefully an untethered jailbreak for iOS 5 and the iPhone 4S aren’t too far off the radar.
