Apple Television Expected to Ship Mid-2012

According to Jefferies analyst Peter Misek, Apple is working with Sharp to help produce their fabled iTV. Production of the television set is estimated to start in February for a mid-2012 release, but what, exactly, the TV will offer over the competition is still completely unknown. We expect that Apple will integrate an improved version of their current ATV software for streaming media from Netflix and other online sources, but some cable content providers are reluctant to sign deals with Apple—which will make it difficult for an iTV to differentiate from the likes of Hulu and Netflix. The best option may be to open up the App Store to the big screen and let developers have at it.
