Sketchbook of Susan Kare

Susan Kare is the designer who created the original icons found in Mac OS, including the well known watch cursor and lasso. PLoS has gotten a behind the scenes look at Kare’s early life and influences, as well as some of her early sketches for the Macintosh’s navigational elements. Apple shaped the way we use a computer by creating one of the first graphical user interfaces, so many people will get hit with a serious wave of nostalgia when seeing her designs. It’s amazing how recognizable 1-bit icons can be 30 years after they were created.
