Apple’s public relations department sent a photo of a display outside the upcoming Grand Central Apple retail store to Gothamist, a New York City news site. According to this image (seen above), the store should be “Arriving soon.” While there is still no official date, rumor has it that the store will open on December 9th. An Apple rep also told Gothamist that “no opening date has been announced,” so the rumor is more of an estimate than solid date.
Opening the enormous 23,000 square-foot Grand Central store prior to Christmas would be highly beneficial to Apple as it would allow many, many additional customers inside the store at the same time. If the rumor is true, Apple will have a full two weeks before Christmas to accumulate a large amount of sales.
A previous rumor suggested that the store would open in time for Apple’s Black Friday event, but it was quickly dismissed due to reports that the store had weeks left in production, not days.
