Many Galaxy Nexus users are reporting a bug where the volume on the device changes automatically due to the radio interference of nearby devices. Samsung has not made an official statement regarding the problem, and UK retailer Handtec has stopped shipping the handset altogether until the issue is resolved. According to a poll on XDA-Developers, over 65% of Nexuses suffer from “Volumegate”, but the latest update indicates that all devices are affected—not just a specific batch.
The following issue is serious enough that by 22 November 2011, 16:00 GMT there is NOT A SINGLE DEVICE WITHOUT THE PROBLEM. So far every user that thinks their device does not suffer from this issue have not been in 2G network. Samsung has manufactured faulty, untested devices to release in mass-market in a scale unlike seen before.
We’re not sure if the issue can be mitigated with a simple firmware update, but the worse case scenario would be a massive recall of affected hardware. If you own a Galaxy Nexus, share your experience in the comments.
