Apple Releases Digital Camera RAW Compatibility Update 3.9

Download iconApple has just updated their Digital Camera RAW Compatibility on Macs to version 3.9. The update adds support for new cameras from Canon, Nikon, Olympus, Panasonic, and Sony to Apple’s Aperture 3 and iPhoto ’11 software. You can find a full list of the cameras after the break.

Lion, Apple’s latest addition to their OS X family, introduced support for many new RAW formats. (RAW is an unprocessed image that can be adjusted in a variety of additional ways, whereas traditional JPEG images cannot. It includes a different extension, such as “.CR2″ for Canon or “NEF” for Nikon.) The company keeps a document listing the supported RAW formats on their support website for users to find out if their camera is supported or not. Apple also added additional RAW formats to the list with their recently released OS X 10.7.2 update.

As always, the Digital Camera RAW Compatibility Update 3.9 is available in the Mac’s built-in Software Update utility, or directly on Apple’s support website entry here.
