Microsoft May Cease Development of Silverlight Plugin

Adobe, you’re not alone. Following reports that the software company plans to discontinue its mobile Flash, it appears that Microsoft may also be choosing to go down the same route with its Silverlight plugin. After the upcoming release of Silverlight 5, it appears that the Redmond, Washington-based company will be ceasing development of the plugin across all of its platforms.

Both Adobe and Microsoft will be moving forward with a newfound focus on HTML5 technology; Microsoft, in particular, dubbed HTML5 as the future of the web in the past. I can only imagine the grins on the corporate executives at Apple right now. Perhaps both companies learned something from Apple.
