Siri, Can I Ask You Questions While I’m Driving? “No.”

As interesting as Apple’s new beta Siri voice recognition technology is, it’s also illegal to use while driving in the United Kingdom, Australia, Germany, certain parts of the United States and Canada, and several other countries. While speaking to your iPhone 4S using Siri is perfectly legal, it is the followup gestures that are often required by Siri that infringe upon driving laws.

In the aforementioned countries, the law states that it is illegal to make use of a handheld device while operating a motor vehicle. In the future, Apple could improve the Siri technology to make it a completely hands-free feature and, therefore, compliant with the law.
