Apple’s recent release of their iOS 5 mobile operating system for iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad contains built-in Twitter functionality across several different applications; for Twitter, according to their CEO Dick Costolo, this integration is going to be huge. Twitter saw their daily signups for their social network triple on the initial launch day of iOS 5 on Oct 12th, which is impressive growth for a service that already has over 100 million global active users. Costolo, speaking with John Battelle at the Web 2.0 Summit in San Francisco Monday evening, also praised Apple as a corporate mentor and amazing partner.
“Those guys [at Apple] are an amazing partner for us. When they think about products and enhancing products they think about editing them,” Costolo said. “[At Twitter] we’re going to offer simplicity in a world of complexity… they’re a corporate mentor to us.”
