Siri For Television Could Become a Reality With Apple TV

Apple’s new Siri voice recognition assistant, which enables the iPhone 4S to recognize voice commands, could makes its way to television sets in the future. According to analyst Shannon Cross for Cross Research, Apple could utilize their set-top box, the Apple TV, to bring Siri functionality to your television; as noted by 9to5Mac, however, this would require a new third-generation model because the current Apple TV’s A4 processor chip is not powerful enough to run Siri smoothly. Cross also suggests that Apple might choose to release an entirely new television set itself, as rumored in the past, with Siri integration built-in.

“We think it would be very compelling to own a TV or a device that could quickly answer the request, ‘I want to watch the Yankees/Red Sox game,’ by changing the TV channel without requiring the user to look at a guide or use a remote control, or even specifying HD or standard definition feeds, since you would want the HD channel if available,” said Cross Research analyst Shannon Cross.
