Google+ Gets Hashtags Like Twitter, Except Searchable

Just a few days ago, I was reading a post on The Next Web about how Google+ could benefit from the integration of hashtags into its stream. Lo and behold, this post became reality today. Google+ Community Manager Natalie Villalobos confirmed the use of hashtags by including one in her “Will You Take It To The Streets” post this afternoon. Villalobos’ post used the hashtag #OccupyWallStreet, which, if searched in Google+, gives any conversation related to it. You can choose to view everything, people, Google+ posts, or Sparks related to the subject.

Whether people will actually use this to their advantage remains to be seen, but it’s definitely headed in the right direction.
