Asides from an accidental leak, and subsequent Cydia tweak, the “real deal” Facebook for iPad application has never been officially released by the world’s largest social network. This has prompted the application’s developer, Jeff Verkoeyen, to quit the Palo Alto-based company and join Google instead to work on the back-end for the Android operating system.
Verkoeyen claims that he has put a “ton of time” into developing the Facebook app for iPad, which he began working on in January, and quit because the app never saw the light of day. He adds that Facebook might not ever release the application, after repeatedly delaying the launch by weeks and months. Facebook’s chief executive Mark Zuckerberg has said, however, that a native iPad application might be released one day.
