New Spotify Accounts Require Facebook

Following the announcement of Spotify integration into Facebook at f8 last week, the streaming music service has made the move to require that new accounts be created using Facebook’s OAuth protocol—so no more having separate identities. Many users feel that Facebook is the digital embodiment of pure evil, so the change will not be well received among those who prefer to stay private. If you made an account prior to the change, you’re in the clear—although some users are reporting that the in-app “Connect to Facebook” splash screen is being particularly persistent since the latest update.

The Get Satisfaction page shows that many paying subscribers are jumping ship to alternative options, and more will likely ditch the service if the integration becomes mandatory for older users.
