Intel Ivy Bridge Could Bring Quad-Core i7 CPU to the 13″ MacBook Pro

Intel has announced its next generation i7 processor architecture, codenamed Ivy Bridge, that draws the same 35W as the Macbook’s current CPU. The chip will allow future 13″ MacBooks to house a more powerful quad-core chip like their full-sized siblings while retaining excellent battery life. Apple hasn’t refreshed the Pro lineup since last February, and although Ivy Bridge isn’t due until 2012, it’s possible that Apple is waiting for a new CPU to make the upgrade worthwhile.
