Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo revealed to AppleInsider on Monday that Apple is expected to release the iOS 5 golden master version to overseas manufacturers of iOS devices during the week of September 23 to September 30. Generally, a GM version of iOS is identical to the finalized copy of the software that is released to the public shortly thereafter.
Overseas manufacturers of iOS devices, like Foxconn, will install the software onto the rumored iPhone 5 and latest iPod touch devices and ship them worldwide during the next 10 to 12 days. Apple has stated that iOS 5 will be released “this Fall,” but hasn’t divulged any specific launch date. It has been widely speculated that Apple will introduce both new fifth-generation devices during early to mid-October.
