Business Insider is reporting on second-hand gossip that they have heard about Apple offering $800 million to acquire Dropbox. Apparently, the online data storage company passed on the offer and accepted a new round of investment instead that made founder Drew Houston a billionaire in terms of valuation. The company, which Houston started in 2007, is now one of at least 13 start-up companies with billion-dollar valuations.
Apple looked at Dropbox’s books prior to their offer and estimated that the company would make $100 million in revenues by the end of this year. For now, it looks like the folks in Cupertino will be sticking to iCloud for their online storage solutions.
