Tim Cook, Apple’s CEO, mentioned to the Wall Street Journal that “Apple is working on a new technology to deliver video to televisions, and has been discussing whether to launch a subscription TV service“.
There have been rumors of an Apple television with an Apple TV-like system built-in, but Cook’s comments hint at something more than that. Apple could be working on beefing up their streaming service, which currently only offers rentals, with a bonafide cable-killer. Many users are cutting the cord in favor of services like Hulu and Netflix, but it looks like Apple wants to take it a step further (possibly after acquiring Hulu). Whether this service will only be offered to ATV/A-T.V. users is unknown, but this could be the “brand new product” that we’ve been hearing about.
