Apple Removes UDID Access in iOS 5

TechCrunch reports that Apple has added a small note that in the iOS 5 beta 6 documentation that could change everything.

Deprecated in iOS 5.0

An alphanumeric string unique to each device based on various hardware details. (read-only) (Deprecated in iOS 5.0. Instead, create a unique identifier specific to your app.)

So apparently Apple wants to cut all of your access to your device’s unique identifier, but why? TechCrunch notes that it may be due to the many privacy concerns since mobile ad networks and game networks use the feature to target certain users with ads and such. Apple now asks that the developer create their own UDID for their app – it should be interesting.
