Apple is planning to build a new store on the Third Street Promenade in Santa Monica. The proposed renderings of the one story/8,084 square foot store feature a massive glass ceiling and facade with stone walls, giving the building a very familiar Apple-like feel. The site was previously occupied by a Borders, but has remained unoccupied by a permanent retailer since 2008.
Apple has been beefing up their retail presence lately by opening new stores worldwide—including a prime spot in Grand Central Terminal—and improving existing locations.
The proposed one-story, 34-foot high commercial building will feature an expansive floor-to-ceiling height accentuated by a transparent glass ceiling. The front façade will consist entirely of transparent glass panels that will project five feet from stone paneled side walls. A 5,210 square foot basement will be accessible from the interior of the building.
