Bloomberg reports that Apple is interested in acquiring Hulu. The auction of the video streaming service is expected to exceed $2 billion, but that amount would be a drop in the bucket for Cupertio’s $76 billion in cash. Full Hulu integration with the iTunes video service would make Apple’s available library much more impressive, and would give the Apple TV an additional selling point. As noted by Bloomberg, Apple has a history of being frugal; their last major acquisition was NeXT for $400 million in 1996, so buying Hulu would be slightly out of character.
Google may also bid on Hulu in effort to expand YouTube into a television hub, but Netflix, the leading competitor in the streaming video space, has not shown interest.
