The company who is currently being sued for copying Apple’s designs has decided to create a very… familiar looking case for the Galaxy Tab line of Android devices. The case features the same tricks as Apple’s Smart Cover, such as folding onto itself to create a stand, though it appears to clip onto the tablet instead of using magnets.
Anymode, the manufacturer of the Smart
Cover (err, Case, for trademark concerns, if you can believe it), has a “strong affiliation with Samsung Electronics for key accessories”, and while it’s unconfirmed if the case is actually certified by Samsung, 9to5 Mac notes that the advertisements carry the official Galaxy branding, and that the Anymode CEO is the nephew of a Samsung chairman.
Good luck in court, Samsung, you’re going to need it.
UPDATE: Samsung has confirmed that this “smart case” was not approved to use this official Samsung certified designation, and that the product has been removed from Anymode’s website.
As a general practice, Samsung Electronics reviews and approves all accessories produced by partners before they are given the “Designed for Samsung Mobile” mark.
In this case, approval was not given to Anymode for the accessory to feature this official designation. We are working with Anymode to address this oversight and the product has already been removed from the Anymode sales website. The product has not been sold.
