The International Trade Commission has made a preliminary determination that HTC has violated two of Apple’s patents. HTC will appeal the decision, but if Apple is victorious, it’s possible that many of HTC’s devices will be banned from U.S. markets. HTC recently made the decision to remove locked bootloaders from their devices, so it would be a huge blow to the Android community if the company is forced to stop selling devices—even if only temporary. The final decision will be made by a six-member commission.
“HTC will vigorously fight these 2 remaining patents through an appeal before the ITC Commissioners who make the final decision. We are highly confident we have a strong case for the ITC appeals process and are fully prepared to defend ourselves using all means possible.” — HTC general counsel
According to AllThingsD, the patents in question regard “system and method for performing an action on a structure in a computer … real-time signal processing system for serially transmitted data“.
