Apple has grown significantly over the last few years, and has now reached the podium as the third largest PC vendor in the U.S.. Only HP and Dell are in the way of the top spot, but it will be a tough climb—both companies have over a 20 percent market share each, compared to Apple’s 10.7. Cupertino has a 8.5 percent year-over-year growth, making it the only company in the leading five (except Toshiba) to have a positive gain.
However, Apple’s popularity seems to be limited to the states. Worldwide, Apple didn’t even make the charts. According to Gartner, Lenovo saw a massive 22.5 percent growth from 2010, making them a very formidable opponent. Keep in mind that like the iPhone, Macs are a very limited number of devices from a single vendor battling it out against a fleet of competitors. Microsoft’s stranglehold on the market is slowly getting looser.
