iOS has its first virus scanner. Depending on how you read that, that could be good news or it could be bad news. But, either way, it’s here and in the form of VirusBarrier by Intego. The app costs $2.99, and does state that “while there is no known malware for iOS, files can flow through your device into your computers at home and at work, by e-mail, or via remote locations such as MobileMe or Dropbox. Mac and Windows viruses, malware and worms will take any path they can to get into your home and work computers, and can easily be passed on to friends and co-workers directly from your iOS device.”
Also of interest is that the app operates with a subscription. The initial purchase of the app includes 12 months of free definition updates. At the end of that period, you will be automatically charged for another twelve month period, unless you turn auto-renewal off in the iTunes Store settings. As far as I know, this is the first app to use Apple’s new subscription model in this way.
