AppleInsider has heard from “people familiar with the matter” that the new MacBook Airs, which are scheduled to be released this month, will be more affordable than the previous models and also include a backlit keyboard. These new models are also expected to include Thunderbolt integration, Sandy Bridge CPUs, and higher speed flash memory that could run around 400MB/s.
After the latest flash-based MacBook Air upgrade last year, Apple began improving battery life by leaving out the backlit keyboards. Now it seems that they have experimented with new batteries and are able to support the backlighting feature again.
The release of the new MacBook Air models will be held off until Lion’s release, which is expected sometime next week.
