Over the years, Apple chose not to enable custom text tones from being used on the iPhone. For those users that couldn’t bear with using Apple’s default selection of text tones, they quickly turned to the jailbreak community for their solution. Now the rest of the people that chose not to go down that route can also enable custom text tones, as Apple has officially enabled this ability in iOS 5 b3.
Not only are custom tones enabled for text messages, but also for unheard voicemail, new e-mails, sent emails, sent tweets, calendar alerts, and reminder alerts. TechCrunch made this discovery by finding a “buy more tones” button within the selection menu for different alert styles.
