As rumored (but a day behind schedule), Apple has officially started their 2011 “Back to School” promo with 10% off any MacBook, MacBook Pro, MacBook Air, iMac or Mac Pro plus a $100 iTunes gift card. Naturally, the squares at Cupertino expect students to use the free credit for flash card apps and study aids, but we all know where the money is really going. The free iPod Touch option is gone, which is a huge disappointment, but we’re glad to see that Apple is still offering something substantial for aspiring college students.
When you buy a new qualifying Mac with Apple education pricing from June 16, 2011, through September 20, 2011, you’ll get a $100 Back to School Card to use on the Mac App Store, the App Store, the iTunes Store, and the iBookstore.
The offer runs until September 20th, so you have plenty of time to wait for any possible product refreshes. The MacBook Air is overdue for the Thunderbolt/Sandybridge treatment, so hold tight for a bit longer.
