1080p playback is coming to your iOS device this fall, but it’s not like any current device’s screen could even support this. This could hint that Apple may truly roll out a new iPad 3 and full HD iPhone in the fall, but I believe it to be unlikely. As for 1080p, you can surely use it with your iOS device, just not on the device itself. This is why Apple gave us the addition of AirPlay video mirroring in iOS 5, and they gave us 1080p video sync support too. You can stream your 1080p video to your Apple TV 2 over AirPlay and it should look great.
So, how’s the performance? 9to5mac reports that in their testing it has performed well and looks great. They were using an iPad 2 for the testing, so it surely does have the dual core CPU to do this. However, do original iPads work with it? Please tell us in the comments if they do, we’d love to know.
