iOS 5 is “PC Free”: Wireless Sync, OTA Updates

By popular request, Apple has done away with the “Connect to iTunes” message when you first turn on your device. Instead, users will be greeted with a friendly “Welcome” screen, and can active the device without connecting to a computer. Users will be able to sync wirelessly with iTunes, and combined with iCloud and OTA updates, users will never need to plug their device into a PC (except for charging!).

The long-awaited “Over the Air” update feature has the ability to download delta changes in the code (only the parts which have been modified) instead of re-downloading the full OS every time an update is released. This saves a considerable amount of bandwidth, and makes updates much faster.
