Steve Jobs might have called 2011 the “year of the iPad 2,” but a report by DigiTimes indicates that Apple has already begun to stockpile parts for the iPad 3. Industry sources have told DigiTimes that Apple has begun certifying components for the next-generation iPad and market rumors indicate that Apple might be transitioning to AMOLED screens which will be manufactured by Samsung. Other industry sources, however, said this is unlikely to happen and that the iPad 3 will still adopt 9.7-inch LCD screens.
Many Taiwanese parts manufacturers have taken advantage of this opportunity by beginning to supply Apple with the necessary iPad components. Even though Apple is beginning to take these first steps towards the production of the third iteration of the iPad, the report goes on to mention that most Taiwanese firms are still pointing towards a 2012 launch for the iPad 3.
