It’s becoming more and more likely that we are witnessing the future of Apple’s online assault. John Paczkowski, writing for The Wall Street Journal, is stating that he has confirmed with sources in a position to know that Apple has indeed bought the domain name iCloud.com from Sweden-based Xcerion.

Whether this new domain will be simply a new service for Apple’s MobileMe program, or a replacement for MobileMe altogether remains to be seen, though it is safe to expect to hear something on this purchase at WWDC’s Keynote next month. The launch date is another unknown, but I would expect it to debut alongside iOS 5, like MobileMe did with iPhone OS 2.0.
