Rumor: Apple Purchased Domain for $4.5 Million

Sources for Gigaom claim that Apple has purchased the domain for $4.5 million. The domain could be used for the rumored iTunes streaming service, which may be making its debut at WWDC on June 6th. Amazon beat Apple to the musical cloud with their recently released Cloud Drive and Cloud Player for Android, but considering that Apple owns a massive chunk of the digital music space, they shouldn’t have a hard time making up lost ground.

The service formerly known as iCloud has been renamed to CloudMe, a move which supports this rumor (though the domain’s Whois still points to Xcerion, not Apple).
