You’d think that, after nearly a decade of the iPod being available on retail store shelves, Apple would have won all the patents they could related to the device. You would be wrong; Apple has just been granted the patent for the click wheel, which is the circular ring that you run your finger over in order to navigate the iPod OS.
The first iPod with a click wheel was the iPod Mini. Before that, iPods were operated using hardware buttons, and we all know how much Apple hates those. It wasn’t long until the click wheel was implemented throughout Apple’s iPod line, and became the smash success we know it to be now.
