Intel has announced that they will be releasing development kits for the new Thunderbolt interconnect this quarter. At the moment, only a small number of devices take advantage of this lightning fast interface, but the dev kit should entice more manufacturers to support the port. The updated MacBook Pro is the only computer to feature Thunderbolt, but it’s guaranteed to be making its way to the next generation of Apple products.
Thunderbolt is capable of speeds up to 10 Gbps in both directions simultaneously, which is a serious boost when compared to current USB technology (even 3.0). Companies like Apple are slowly breaking the bottlenecks with next-gen tech, and it’s only a matter of time before Thunderbolt is standard.
