Accessory Review: Griffin PowerDock Dual

Griffin offers a wide variety of power solutions for the iPad, iPhone, and iPod touch. One such product is the PowerDock Dual, which is a docking station that can charge your iPad and iPhone/iPod touch simultaneously. It is compatible with all generations of the iPod touch, iPhone, and iPad. It can also be used with the 4th to 6th generation iPod nano as well as the iPod classic.

What’s Included

The PowerDock Dual is bundled with a 100V-240V power supply, two plastic inserts, and four interchangeable plugs for use in the United States, Canada, European Union, United Kingdom, Japan, and other countries. If you live in or plan on traveling to one of these countries, you’ll find this very useful.

The PowerDock Dual docking station provides your iPad with a 10 watt (2 amp) charge, and a 5 watt (1 amp) charge for its smaller counterpart, the iPhone or iPod touch. Both devices rest on a weighted, sturdy base. There is a valet dish that is designed to hold your loose change, car keys, guitar picks, and whatnot. The dock itself has a very sleek design that matches the look of the iPad and iPhone.

There is a transparent plastic backrest that holds both devices securely. The plastic is soft enough to prevent it from scratching the back of one of your devices. If you are still paranoid, there is enough space to dock your device while inside of its case. I cannot guarantee that all cases will work with this dock, but it works fine with the average silicone case.

There is no interference with onscreen functionality. There is also a sound channel for the iPad’s speakers for an unobstructed listening experience. The sound quality does sound somewhat tinnier, but it’s far better than having no speaker functionality at all.

Value For Money

The PowerDock Dual docking station retails for $59.99 on Griffin’s website. This is the same price that I paid for my Griffin A-Frame stand, which was reviewed, that I eventually returned. My reason behind returning it was that it was simply not worth the money that I had paid for it. It’s hard to say the same thing about the PowerDock Dual. The sleek design and excellent functionality make it worth every penny. It even holds my pennies!

Score: ★★★★½
