It looks like Apple will finally be putting that Near Field Communication expert to work on a integrated NFC payment system on the iPad 2 and iPhone 5. “Near Field Communication” is a technology that allows for short range communication between devices, for example, swiping an iPhone at a register to instantaneously pay for a product. NFC has already made its way into a few Android handsets, so Apple would be wise to adopt the technology—and possibly help it grow.
NFC payments could eventually replace cash and credit cards, and speed up transactions by automatically linking to users iTunes account’s bank data. Of course, there will undoubtably be security measures in place to prevent unwanted payments from being made from a lost device.
