iPad users continue to wait for a native Facebook app. The iPhone app is certainly usable, as is a home screen bookmark, but an app that fully utilizes the iPad display has not been released – until now, sort of. (This isn’t as much a review as a warning. Don’t get too excited.)
Facepad – Facebook for iPad is not an official Facebook app. It was released by Lotyr, Inc. and doesn’t add anything to the other options available except frustration. It really is just the web browser page within an app. Many users on iTunes reported it wouldn’t open or crashed. Others complained of the orientation. The app only displays in landscape mode. I was able to open and use it, but not send messages. The app description claims the ability to suport multiple profiles as stackable, as well as an embedded video player. When I tried to play a YouTube video from a Facebook link, the video attempted to play and crashed.
This app may become a decent Facebook for the iPad app. It would require some bug fixes and redesigning. If you want to give it a try, the app is free, meaning ad-supported. It runs on the iPad with iOS 3.2 or later. Better alternatives include the iPhone app, adding a web page bookmark to your home screen, or using Flipboard.
